University of Utah Senate Leaders welcome today’s (8/27/21) announcement from the Utah System of Higher Education Board relaxing restriction on vaccination requirements among USHE institutions. Thanks to our Governmental Relations team and President Randall for their leadership and advocacy on behalf of the campus community. We have heard from many faculty across campus in support of vaccine requirements — for faculty and staff as well as students — and look forward to working with the Administration to support policy implementation to help keep our campus community safe and well.

Vaccination remains the best protection against COVID-19 with universal masking providing an important role to help minimize transmission.

Thank you to the faculty members who signed the petition in support of vaccine requirements originated by Utah State University. The number and diversity of faculty support from across Utah moved the Board in their decision.
