Senate Special Committee on Career-Line Parental Leaves
Committee Description
This Committee was established in the Spring of 2019 and was charged with (a) examining the issue of potentially extending parental leave benefits to career-line faculty and (b) if such a recommendation were made to draft the necessary policy revisions. The Committee, comprised of faculty and staff from across the University, met regularly and in January of 2021 issued a report to the Academic Senate recommending the adoption of such a benefit and proposing certain amendments to University Policy 6-315. The Senate approved the proposed policy revision, which revision was supported by the University Central Administration and various Deans and other academic leaders. The revised policy was subsequently approved by the University Board of Trustees and will become effective on July 1, 2021. A detailed description of the Committee’s activities and the Committee’s Report and Recommendations to the Academic Senate are included in the agenda materials for the January 11, 2021 meeting of the Senate, which materials are available on Board Docs.
